Athletics is a large part of the fabric that makes up Ripon College. Not only are we known for grooming outstanding scholars, but we’ve been known to produce some standout athletes as well. If you don’t believe me, take a trip down to the Storzer Athletic Center and take a look at the college’s athletic hall of fame. There’s some impressive people and statistics on display.
Today, the first day of Zach Messitte’s inauguration week, we celebrate this strong tradition at Ripon. An avid sports fan himself - a Washington Nations nut and I’m told an active fantasy football player - Dr. Messitte should feel right at home here in Ripon considering he lives just a few hundred away from our athletic center!
I unfortunately won’t be around campus much today to share much of what’s going on, but here’s what you can expect:
Hotshot Contest: 11:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Storzer Athletic Center
The more shots you drain on the basketball court, the more President Messitte donates to the Athletic Department. Come on out and make him pay!
Title IX Discussion: 12:15 p.m.-12:45 p.m., PDR, Pickard Commons
Join us for an informal round-table discussion about Title IX. Featured participants include Athletic Director Julie Johnson; Associate Dean of Faculty Michele Wittler ‘76; attorney Julia Messitte, President’s Spouse; and Kathy Skalsky Kelm ‘76, a former Ripon College athlete and coach and retired physical education teacher in Ripon Public Schools.
Packers Watch Party: 7-10 p.m., The Pub
Come to The Pub for free food, football, and plenty of cheering. The event will also feature a raffle. Grand Prize: two tickets to a Packers game.
